《苍颉篇》本来秦相李斯写的,汉代本的《汉兼》一章,本是根据秦《苍颉篇》改造,学者推测秦代此句是“秦兼天下”,应该是对的。那么它特别说“胡無噍类”一句,应该是有其历史原因。根据《史记·秦始皇本纪》的记载,燕人卢生曾经向秦始皇奏《录图书》说“亡秦者胡也”,秦始皇因而让蒙恬带兵三十万北击胡,是秦始皇确信胡是毁坏秦天下的祸根。《苍颉篇》说“胡無噍类”,字面上是说胡被全部消灭(实际上秦人并没做到),暗含意思应该是国家的威胁均被清除,天下太平。“菹醢離異”可能是脱离严刑苛法的意思(虽然实际上也非如此)。

自“汉兼天下”以下,由汉闾师改编的可能性最大,最初的改编可能就是北齐颜氏所引的版本。这一版本应该是流传于民间的版本。而后来所出土的版本可能是汉儒所改造的版本,大多流传于上层社会,有着较高的理论概括。颜氏所引的版本却是简单的描述汉初的历史。此外,颜氏所引的《苍颉篇》没有韵声的严格要求,更进一步说明这一版本是民间所流传的版本。《史记》记载始皇因卢生之言而伐胡,更不不可靠的。《史记年表》、《汉书异姓王表》,皆说秦始皇统一后的政策是基于对周王室失天下的根源而做出的对应之策。《汉书异姓王表》:“秦既稱帝,患周之敗,以為起於處士橫議,諸侯力爭,四夷交侵,以弱見奪。於是削去五等,墮城銷刃,箝語燒書,內鋤雄俊,外攘胡粵,用壹威權,為萬世安。”《史记》也是类似的表述,只是说堕名城,当是指各国的都城和长城、要塞之类。这说明秦始皇伐胡有其政策的考虑,不是凭借几句“无依据的话”就出兵。这也太低估秦始皇的智慧。卢生之言和“胡”指胡亥更有可能是污蔑之词。
