<p style="TEXT-JUSTIFY: inter-ideograph; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; FONT-SIZE: 10.5pt"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 宋体; FONT-SIZE: 14pt"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;</span></span><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 宋体; FONT-SIZE: 14pt">《周礼·地官》:“凡建方国,以土圭土其地而制其域。”又:“以土圭之法,测土深,正日景(影),以求地中。”《周礼·春官》:“土圭以致四时日月,封国则以土圭。”通过以上史料可知,这“土圭”应是建居立址的首要。而结合玉圭之形可知,它应该是由堆土筑成的碑形建筑物。其作用是观测日影,即通过土圭之投影变化,来确定房屋、街道之朝向,测记封国领土之幅员、四季之时令以及计时等,即它本是一项实用性的建筑或者说是工具。而后世之封国多是在原居旧址上进行,是故这土圭的实际作用基本就废弃了。但其封国的内涵犹在,于是便有了象征性或礼仪性的礼器之“圭”,也就是玉制的“圭”。是故封国之“封”亦从“圭”。</span></p>

<p style="TEXT-JUSTIFY: inter-ideograph; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; FONT-SIZE: 10.5pt"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 宋体; FONT-SIZE: 14pt"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></span><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 宋体; FONT-SIZE: 14pt">封土建邦,即分封诸侯,这是有等级区别的,是故“圭”的尺寸大小,纹饰以及颜色(玉质)也都有所不同。《周礼·冬官考工记》:“镇圭尺有二寸,天子守之。命圭九寸,谓之桓圭,公守之。命圭七寸,谓之信圭,侯守之。命圭七寸,谓之躬圭,伯守之。”通过这些记载可知,除天子用圭外,分封用圭则统称之“命圭”,这说明这类圭都是载有命符的,即是要镌刻或书写上被封者的姓名、爵位以及所封之地等内容在上的。而这载有命符的“圭”,对于其后世的继承者来说,首先,它是合法继承的一种信物,即其作用应相当于后世的传过玉玺。其次,它应该是地方诸侯与周王室间的一种信符命约。因此在朝见周天子的时候,都要执“圭”前往,且“奠圭于缫上”(《仪礼·觐礼》),即要与周天子一同供奉祭奠。要之,这圭上的名号,也是周天子的先人。</span></p>
